Install Guide – MDVR Solution V2

Device Provisioning
The MDVR Solution comes with a pre-installed
SIM card and is provisioned on our GPS
tracking platform, and video monitoring platform.
If you opted in for us to supply hard drive storage,
this will come pre-installed on the MDVR Solution for on-board video
recording.
Each device is checked for connectivity prior
to being delivered to a client site.
The only adjustment to the camera that is required
during installation is the setting of the camera angles for each specific
vehicle type.
Wiring Connection of MDVR Main Unit
Power Supply of Main Unit
- Connect the RED WIRE to a vehicle
positive source (+).
- Connect the BLACK WIRE to a
vehicle negative source (-).
- Connect the YELLOW WIRE to a
vehicle ignition source (+).
Serial Cable
For IN1-IN6 is for general purpose input, the input voltage should be less than 24V, or else, it will damage the I/O ports.
Output1 and Output2, the output-drive is 12V @ 200mA(Max.) Besides, there are 5V and 12V cables from the serial cable, the drive-current is 1A at most. For some accessories(such as people counter, Fatigue driving), must take power from vehicle’s battery directly.
There is a Debug-RX1/TX1 cable, don’t connect it. It’s for debugging or fixing the program.
IN7/9 is ibutton specially, if you don't need it, turn them off.

Installation of GPS, 3G/4G and WIFI Antennas
(1) GPS Antenna
- The front side of the GPS antenna should be facing the sky.
- It is recommended that the antenna be installed on front passenger side, more than 10cm away from the A-pillar.
- No equipment above the antenna, and the antenna should be kept clear of in-vehicle audio-video, interphone, and other electronic equipment to prevent interference.
- The antenna should be placed far away from the position with severe vibration.
- The antenna should be far away from the air outlet of the air conditioner to prevent condensate accumulation due to temperature change.
(2) 3G/4G Antenna
- The equipment that may interfere with 3G/4G signals, such as original on-board GPS positioning module, should be kept more that 15cm away from the antenna.
- Excess tail harness of the 3G/4G antenna should be concealed in the A-pillar or the center console.
Tear off the 3M adhesive film on the 3G/4G antenna and stick the antenna under the A-pillar at the front passengar side.
(3) WIFI Antenna
- The antenna cannot be installed in a confined space, as this may affect signal reception.
- Excess tail harness of the WIFI antenna should be concealed in the A-pillar or the center console.
Tear off the 3M adhesive film on the bottom of the Wi-Fi antenna to stick the antenna to one side of the centre console of the vehicle.
Only a qualified auto-electrician should be used for wiring the device to the vehicle
Preparing the Installation Area
Getting the surface right up front can save time and trouble later. Cleaning helps form a better bond, and some contaminants require more attention than others. Priming can also improve the ability of the adhesive to stick to the substrate in certain situations.
Cleaning
- Quick pre-clean of interior and exterior of installation area for tough spots if necessary
- Use a wet disposable towel or cloth (light colours preferred to show contaminant removal)
- Final clean of installation area with the provided alcohol wipe
Priming
A primer creates a new surface for the adhesive to bond to and can improve initial and ultimate adhesion. Many primers are available, however we recommend using 3M Tape Primer 94 where available.
- Clean before priming (see above)
- Apply primer across installation area
- Let dry before applying tape
Installation and Calibration of Cameras
ADAS AHD Camera Installation and Calibration
1. Installation Position
(1) If conditions permit, it must be installed in the middle of the front windshield.
(2) If the wiper stops at the lower part of the front windshield, the ADAS installation position should be at lease 10cm above the lower edge of the front windshield to avoid being covered by the windshield wiper at stop position.
(3) If the wiper stops vertically in the middle of the front windshield, the ADAS camera lens shall be installed as close to the middle position as possible (to avoid too high sensitivity for any lane deviation on this side) and be less than 10 cm away from the centerline, provided that the lens will not be covered by the windshield wiper at stop position.
(4) Make sure that ADAS is installed within the working area of the left and right windshield wipers (so as to ensure that the area within the range of the ADAS camera lens can be cleaned by the windshield wiper).
(5) For ADAS, the optimum installation installation height is 150cm - 240cm and the optional one is 120cm - 260cm.
2. Installation Steps
After the installation area and the centerline are determined, the following shall be done:
(1) Clean the interior and exterior of the glass in the target installation area with alcohol cotton in the packaging (to ensure that no dirt will affect the angle of view of the ADAS camera lens) and ensure the glass in the wiping area is dry.
(2) Tear off the 3M adhesive film on the ADAS camera lens, and then stick the ADAS camera horizontally and vertically on the front windshield.
- If there is no special mounting bracket for ADAS installation, it is recommended that one person should stand outside the vehicle to observe whether the ADAS camera is installed horizontally and vertically, and the person in charge of ADAS camera installation should make fine adjustments to ensure that the camera is indeed installed horizontally and vertically, and then can press the ADAS camera tightly to ensure no bubble between the 3M adhesive tape and the glass.
If there is a special mounting bracket for ADAS (as shown in the figure below), the following steps are implemented: Place the mounting bracket vertically on the dashboard below the target installation area, and then tear off the 3M adhesive film on ADAS and align the lower edge of the ADAS camera to the notched ADAS fixing seat above the special bracket. Finally, press the camera onto the glass continuously to ensure no bubble between the 3M adhesive tape and the glass.
3. Calibration Steps
(1) Measure the following parameters
- Camera height (cm)
- Camera to bumper (cm)
- Camera to centreline (cm)
- Camera to axle (cm)
- Vehicle width (cm)
(2) Call Fleetware on 1300 88 36 79 and provide all parameters above to the operator.
DMS AHD Camera Installation
1. Installation Position
- The desktop is flat, and the camera can be fixed easily.
- The face in the DMS channel screen is not blocked by the steering wheel.
- The favourable distance from the DMS lens to the human face is within 70 - 90 cm.
- It can be installed on the countertop in front of the driver, or on the countertop on the left or right side of the driver; however, when it is installed on the side of the countertop, the horizontal distance between DMS camera and the center of the steering wheel should be exceed 30cm, and the maximum deflection angle should not exceed 30°.
2. Installation Steps
Find a suitable installation location and adjust the camera installation angle.
- Make sure that the DMS camera has a low angle of view.
- Adjust the angle of the DMS camera up and down, and left and right, to ensure that the driver's face appears in the middle four grids of the video screen and the lower edge of the screen is below the driver's chest.
- DMS channel fills in light on the human face.
- No feature value of the human face is blocked by the steering wheel, and the human face is distanced from the steering wheel; in addition, the steering wheel is located within two lower right grids of the screen.
- When simulating people with a height of 165cm, 175cm, and 185cm by the sitting posture, the main characteristic parts of the human face (Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Chin) are still within the four grids in the middle.
This step is very important, and the selected
installation method must be consistent with the actual installation method
Side Cameras Installation
Installation Position
The camera must be installed on the left and right side of the vehicle side mirrors, with the installation height being 210-400 cm, preferably 270 to 300 cm. While choosing the installation position, please avoid the camera being too close to the side mirror. Otherwise, it will cause the image to be blocked by the side mirror.
When installing the side cameras, please contact Fleetware on 1300 88 36 79 to check the camera views.
