Install Guide – Rugged Tablet

Device Provisioning

  1. The Rugged Tablet comes pre-installed with the relevant applications as per the customer requirements.
  2. The Rugged Tablet comes pre-configured to use the Accessory line of a vehicle to power and shutdown the tablet while in the docking station.
  3. Each device is checked for connectivity and functionality prior to being delivered to a client site.
Note: The Rugged Tablet does NOT come pre-installed with a SIM card, and it is the responsibility of the Customer to supply and install a Micro SIM card with appropriate data allowances where required.

Installation Tips

  1. Standard installation of the  is the connection of:
    1. Power
    2. Ground
    3. ACC
  2. This docking station can be mounted in the asset cabin using various configurations of RAM mounts (supplied separately).
  3. Mounting the docking station in a suitable location where the driver's vision of the road is not impeded is recommended.
  4. The docking station should be mounted in a position that does not interfere with any function of the asset.
  5. Connecting Wires:
    1. Wires should be connected while the module is not plugged in.
    2. Wires should be fastened to stable wires or non-moving parts. Any heat omitting and/or moving objects should be kept away from wires.
    3. There should be no exposed wires. If factory isolation was removed while connecting wires, the isolation material should be applied
    4. If wires are placed in the exterior or in places where they can be damaged or exposed to heat, humidity, dirt etc. additional isolation should be applied, and the wires should not be loose.
  6. Connecting Power Source:
    1. After the asset computer goes to sleep mode, power might be still available on the power wires. Depending on the asset model, this may happen in 5-30 minutes period.
    2. The standard docking station cabling comes with a DC adapter on the power cables, which needs to be cut off to reveal the RED wire to be connected to Power and BLACK wire to be connected to Ground.
    3. When the module is connected, measure the voltage again to make sure it did not decrease.
    4. It is recommended to connect to the main power cable in the fuse box.
    5. 3A, 125 V external fuse to be used.
  7. Connecting ACC Wire:
    1. Connect the YELLOW wire to vehicle/asset Accessory line (ACC).
    2. Check if this is an ACC wire (when the key is in the first position, most of the vehicle electronics are available).
    3. Check if power is still available when you turn off any of the vehicle device.
Note: RAM Mounts are not supplied as standard with the Rugged Tablet and Docking Station, however can be supplied separately.
